introducing DED

Hello everyone, today marks the beginning of February a cold, windy month with no hope of spring and my birthday is a day or so away. i will be 27. This has always been some magical age for me so now that i'm finally there i don't really know how to feel...disappointed i guess. Nothing to show for it, no respect , no love, no website, no money, no (real) job, no ANYTHING!

I've had a new ocmputer for a month and barley lifted a finger. My drafting table and desk are covered with junk (not that that's new) and despite loving where i am living right now i've settled into a lazy and not terribly creatively productive routine.

In attempts to correct this i am starting DESIGN EVERY DAY or DED (dead) for short. Because if i don't do this i may as well be dead.

DEDicon1

For the entire month of February I will design, draw, craft or create something to completion everyday. I'm leaving the spectrum wide open for myself so i can try and choose interesting topics that i can get done quickly, because i also have a life to live, jobs to search for and a laundry list of ongoing creative projects that cannot be done in a day.
This will keep me on my toes, make me organize my tiny space even more and try and get this blog back on track.

Scanner permitting i will post each project here at the end of each day. For me the day ends when I go to sleep so count on a lot of 2 am posts. If I go away on weekends or somehow cannot post a picture the night of (let's face it, my birthday IS coming up) I will post double/triple the next day...so by the end of this month i will have at least 28 things...HOORAY!

For today i made the first of many logos for DED, it's aqua and ochre yellow...my favs. As an extra I also complete a pinup. here ya go internet, see you tomorrow...

Big Things

in less than a week i will be 27 years old. 27 and not much to show for it. i work retail for chump change, live with friends because they're cutting me a huge deal and all in all even with my new computer i just haven't been feeling very creative. i've barely drawn anything in months other than for presents and mild attempts to be happy.

NO MORE !

when i was younger, i met most of my cool hatcha illustrator friends who inspired me to not go into animation and jump headlong into illustration. Most of them were 27 so it's always been this awesome magical age to me. so starting in february there are going to be changes, daily updates and lots of stuff happening.

stay tuned viewers and thanks.

Detroit Urban Craft Fair

Getting ushered into the Detroit craft community and I love it.
I had a bang up first day at DUCF, it pretty much obliterated my stock of well...everything. I sold out of Ackbar reprints, I have no more business cards, I'm down to one Lockemonster, I only have 4 owls left, one sugar skull....yeah you get the idea...things are GONE.

so THANK YOU to everyone came by today and supported!

Tonight despite paint and fatigue I am working to build at least some stock for tomorrow. sadly, all the owl shapes I had cut are all cream and beige...so maybe not the most colourful display tomorrow.

also in exciting news I just returned from a 24 hours kinkos with hot steamy new Ackbar prints. so have hope friends, it's a new day...

Much Delayed

Fan expo Re-cap!

This event was GANGBUSTERS for me. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by, said hi and supported what I do. I love to create so much, it's only ever been about making enough to continue making the things I love...and it's been hard. Not all the events are worth it. Let me tell you thought I never felt so alive then I did sitting behind that table watching things fly away from my table to happy new owners.

THANK YOU!

I've been in a rut pretty bad over the summer but this helped a bit.

To all you newcomers who I told to find my blog because I am a lame-ass without a website, welcome, thanks for seeing me at the Fan Expo and I hope you really enjoyed it as much as I did.

Friday and Saturday were crazy that started with seeing sweet old Stan Lee being wheeled by in a wheel chair before the convention opened and ended with rumours of how hideously overcrowded the damn Fan Expo staff let it get on Saturday.

My Lockemonster print got more attention than I ever thought it would. I only had 4 copies to sell (having sold 4 TOTAL between two conventions) and never thought I'd have to restock....they were all gone before the end of Friday. So at 2am I'm ordering more from Staples and begging a friend to bring them to the convention for me.
By the time they arrived to my table the Ackbar print had been sold out for over and hour....THEY SOLD OUT BY 3PM on Saturday!!! I was blown away...and felt like a fool for not ordering more, I could have sold twice as many.

Don't worry friends, as soon as I find a good printer in town I will restock and offer them online when my etsy store reopens. I was selling 8.5x11 prints at the con for easy framing, but would anyone want an 11x17 poster?

Thank you to the one guy who bought the Mermaid print. I didn't think it would sell like the other two...but i thought I would get rid of at least 5 of them. My hat off to that man, thanks for liking boobies sir.

There will definitely be more Lost and more Star Wars art in the future, so keep an eye out.
The conventon was so exhausting that I came home and went to bed for 2 days. Then I went to Maryland and drew caricatures at my cousins wedding. I just got back Tuesday and have been busting my hump to try and regain the stock I sold in prep for the Kerrytown Bookfest that I will be at all dau Sunday (the 12th) in Ann Arbor, MI....so STOP BY!

So I guess I'll stop boring you with with this non-art update. as soon as this bookfest is over I will be offering extreme prices on personal commissions and will start selling any and all art I have produced. So look through the archives and see what you might like. If it's not in a sketchbook and I still have it, it's for sale! (momma needs a new computer)
